Gig Harbor Lacrosse (originally "Harbor Fire Lacrosse Association") was founded in 2008 with a small group of sixty boys youth lacrosse players from all over Gig Harbor.  The following season we added a high school boys lacrosse team and a fourth boys youth lacrosse team. In 2011 the first girls middle school team was created and in ___ a girls high school program was started.

In 2014, the boys high school league’s governing body (Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association) mandated that conglomerate clubs (teams comprised of players from more than one school) split and align with only one school.  Separate boys high school teams were therefore established to align with Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High School. The GHHS boys team was also moved up to Division I. A separate board of directors was created, as mandated by the league, to support the PHS program, and so the Peninsula Lacrosse Association (PLA) was born. As a result of the high school split, PLA took responsibility for the boys youth programs serving the elementary and middle school players who feed into PHS.

The first annual Baggataway Bowl was established that year (2014). Like the local football tradition of the Fish Bowl, the Baggataway Bowl is a contest between the boys varsity teams from Gig Harbor and Peninsula.  The Baggataway Bowl pays homage to the Native heritage of the game as well as the common origin of the two teams.

In 2016, Harbor Fire Lacrosse Association changed its name to Gig Harbor Lacrosse (GHL).

In 2017, the Peninsula School District adopted girls high school lacrosse as an official district club sport. The team was comprised of girls from both Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High School so it was recognized as a conglomerate Peninsula School Distict team.

As of 2017, Gig Harbor Lacrosse supports boys lacrosse from 3rd grade through high school, and girls lacrosse from 3rd grade through 8th grade.

GHL is a 501 (C-3) non-profit organization established to organize and develop youth lacrosse in the Gig Harbor, WA area.  GHLA serves boys & girls enrolled in the Peninsula School District and is a member of the following leagues: South Sound Lacrosse League, Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association, and the Washington School Girls Lacrosse Association.
